BRC
The British Retail Consortium is concerned with the protection of the consumer at a high level. Their focus is on the manufacturer, each link in the distribution chain and the consumer. With the help of the mutual recognition method the BRC endeavours to make their requirements a European standard.
The BRC designed a strict certification procedure regarding products and procedures that is subjected to a strict control. Products that bear the BRC quality mark don’t have to be checked as thoroughly at the points of sale and guarantee consumer safety.
IFS
International Food Standard. The globalization of the commodity flows, the increased claims for damages by consumers and the increasing requirements set by consumer organizations induced the Global Food Safety Initiative to call the International Food Standard into being. A high degree of transparency has been achieved in the food chain. Also the audits were harmonized and mutually recognized.
The IFS system can be accessed by customers of the supplier on the internet, enabling them to follow the procedures within the processing company.
MSC
The MSC's fishery certification program and seafood eco-label recognise and reward sustainable fishing. It is a global organisation working with fisheries, seafood companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public to promote the best environmental choice in seafood.
